<p class=3DMsoNormal>Svante Arrhenius ble f&oslash;dt i Vik ved Uppsala i S=

19.februar 1859. Han l&aelig;rte seg &aring; lese da han var tre &aring;r
gammel, og ble interessert i tall da han s&aring; farens notisb&oslash;ker.=

&aring;r gammel begynte han p&aring; skolen, og startet direkte i 5. klasse.
Etter en tidlig skoleslutt startet han ved Universitetet i Uppsala. Her var=
 han
ikke forn&oslash;yd med l&aelig;rerne i fysikk, s&aring; han flyttet over t=
il
Fysisk institutt ved Vitenskapsakademiet. Arrhenius ble professor i fysikk i
1895 ved H&oslash;gskolen i Stockholm.</p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal>Arbeidet hans her dreide seg f&oslash;rst om elektroly=
tters
ledningsevne. Han tok doktorgraden p&aring; dette emnet i 1884. Sensorene v=
ar
ikke forn&oslash;yde, og ga ham s&aring; vidt st&aring;karakter, men det var
dette arbeidet som ga han Nobelprisen i kjemi i 1903! Den viktigste ideen i
arbeidet var forklaringen p&aring; hvorfor l&oslash;sninger av salter i vann
leder str&oslash;m n&aring;r verken reint vann eller fast salt gj&oslash;r =
det.
Han forklarte dette med at saltene spaltes i ioner, et begrep som var kjent=
 fra
Michael Faraday mange &aring;r tidligere. Arrhenius p&aring;stod ogs&aring;=
 at
reaksjoner i vandig l&oslash;sning skjer mellom ionene i vannet.</p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal>I 1889 kom Arrhenius med sin teori om at de aller fles=

reaksjoner krever tilf&oslash;rsel av varme for &aring; starte. Han
innf&oslash;rte begrepet aktiveringsenergi. Han kom fram til det vi i dag
kjenner som Arrhenius&#8217; likning &#8211; om sammenhengen mellom
reaksjonsfart og aktiveringsenergi. Etter hvert som teoriene hans ble allme=
nt
akseptert, gikk han over til andre forskingsomr&aring;der, som kjemiske
&aring;rsaker til fysiologiske problemer, geologi, astronomi og kosmologi. =
Han
utvidet ogs&aring; sin ioneteori, og foreslo definisjoner p&aring; syrer og
baser ved hjelp av ionespalting.</p>
