<p class=3DMsoNormal>John Frederic Daniell ble f&oslash;dt 12.mars 1790 i L=
ondon.
Han studerte ved universitetet i Oxford, og fikk arbeid ved et sukkerraffin=
eri.
Her forbedret han metodene i fabrikken. Han ble professor i fysikk ved univ=
ersitetet
i Edinburgh da han bare var 23 &aring;r gammel. Her arbeidet han b&aring;de=
 med
fysikk, kjemi og meteorologi.</p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal>I 1820 konstruerte han et doggpunktshygrometer, som
m&aring;lte fuktigheten i luft. I 1830 lagde han et pyrometer, som kunne
m&aring;le varme. Etter dette flyttet han til London, der han ble professor=
 i
kjemi og meteorologi fra 1831 til 1845. Her arbeidet han sammen med Michael
Faraday, og ble interessert i elektrokjemi. Han ville pr&oslash;ve &aring;
forbedre Voltas element, siden dette bare ga str&oslash;m i en kort tid. Gr=
unnen
til dette var bl.a. at det ble laget et tynt lag av hydrogengass mellom pla=
tene
(polarisering). Daniell l&oslash;ste dette problemet, og hans element lagde
n&aring; en konstant str&oslash;m over lang tid. Daniell mottok medalje fra=
 The
Royal Society i London.</p>
